KD 8.3m Fine, 7 Years’ Hard Labor for Kuwaiti, Asian Expat

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 10: The Court of Appeal, presided over by Counselor Dr. Fahd Bu Salib, has upheld a ruling issued by the Court of First Instance sentencing a Kuwaiti citizen and an Asian national to seven years’ imprisonment with hard labor on charges of money laundering, harming national interests, and conducting banking activities without a license.

The court also ordered the two defendants, along with three companies, to pay a joint and several fine totaling KD 8,367,360. In addition, the ruling prohibits the companies from engaging in any commercial activity for a period of five years.

The court further ruled that the second defendant be deported from the country upon completion of the imposed sentence. The judgment against the companies will be published in the Official Gazette.
