KUWAIT CITY, Oct 21: Kazma Club made a strong start to its West Asia Super League (WASL) Gulf Zone journey, securing a convincing 95-81 victory over Bahrain’s Muharraq. The match took place at the Kuwait Basketball Association Hall in the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Complex, as part of Group A, which also features Shabab Al-Ahli (UAE) and Al-Ittihad Jeddah (Saudi Arabia).
The win placed Kazma at the top of Group A on point difference ahead of Al-Ittihad, while Muharraq settled in fourth place with a single point, trailing Sharjah, who lost to Al-Ittihad in their opening match.
Head coach Bojan Lazic of Slovenia praised his players’ performance and composure, saying:
“It was a great and important victory — an ideal start to a significant tournament. We can build on this positive momentum throughout the season. There were many positives and only a few negatives, which we’ll work to improve moving forward.”
The Gulf Zone of the WASL includes eight teams divided into two groups. Group A features Kazma, Muharraq, Shabab Al-Ahli, and Al-Ittihad Jeddah, while Group B consists of Kuwait Club, Sharjah (UAE), Al-Arabi (Qatar), and Al-Ula (Saudi Arabia). The top team from each group will advance directly to the semifinals, while the second and third-placed sides will compete in playoff qualifiers for the same stage.
