KUWAIT CITY, Feb 16: Kuwait Club dropped its first point of the Handball Premier League season after being held to a thrilling 30-30 draw by Kazma in Round 11 at the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Complex. The result ended Kuwait Club’s perfect run of 10 consecutive victories since the league kicked off on September 2.
In the same round, Burgan secured a 39-33 win over Al-Sulaibikhat.
The clash between Kazma and Kuwait Club was filled with drama, particularly at the start of the second half when Kuwait Club’s goalkeeping duo, brothers Ali and Hassan Safar, were both shown red cards. Teammate Mohammed Amer was also dismissed with a blue card, leaving the team without a specialist goalkeeper.
Algerian coach Said Hejazi was forced to field team captain Abdullah Al-Khamis in goal — a situation Kazma could not fully exploit. Nevertheless, Kazma managed to score a last-gasp equalizer to secure a valuable point.
Despite the setback, Kuwait remains top of the standings with 21 points in the three-phase competition. Kazma is second with 14 points, level with Burgan, who sits third on goal difference. Al-Arabi occupies fourth place with 12 points, followed by Qadsia in fifth with 10. Al-Salmiya has eight points, Al-Sulaibikhat seven, while Al-Nasr sit bottom with two points.
The league continues during the month of Ramadan, with Round 12 set to begin tomorrow, Wednesday. Al-Nasr will meet Qadsia at 8:00 pm, followed by Burgan against Al-Arabi at 10:00 pm.
