Kazma eyes Colombian reinforcement after Indonesian exit

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 10: Kazma is set to strengthen its volleyball squad with a Colombian professional after Indonesian player Farhan withdrew from the team due to his commitments with the Indonesian national team.

The change follows the rescheduling of the 2026-2027 volleyball season, which coincided with Farhan’s international commitments and led him to apologize for being unable to continue with Kazma.

The club’s volleyball management has moved quickly to secure a replacement and is close to completing a deal with a Colombian player whose identity has yet to be disclosed. He is expected to arrive in Kuwait in October, in time for the start of the new season.

Meanwhile, Kazma has completed the arrival of members of its technical staff, with Brazilian fitness coach Renato Santos and statistician Daniel Melo joining the team. The club announced their arrival through its official X account as preparations continue for the upcoming competitions and the 2026-2027 season.

The coaching staff is working to raise the players’ physical and technical fitness levels ahead of the demanding schedule, particularly following the changes made to the season calendar.

Kazma began its local preparations around three weeks ago under Saad Yaqoub, the club’s volleyball technical director, with the participation of the local players. The management has also strengthened the squad by signing Abdulrahman Al-Mulla and Fahad Al-Kout, in a bid to increase the team’s competitiveness and challenge for titles next season.

Meanwhile, Kuwait’s U-17 national volleyball team opened its campaign at the second Arab U-17 Volleyball Championship in Manama with a 0-3 defeat to Egypt. The tournament runs until August 17.

Egypt won the sets 25-16, 25-16 and 25-12. Kuwait then faced Saudi Arabia in the second round of the preliminary stage.

The teams have a rest day today before the third round gets underway tomorrow. Kuwait will meet host Bahrain, Saudi Arabia will face Egypt, while Jordan will take on Algeria.
