ASTANA, April 6: Kazakhstan ranks among the world’s top holders of agricultural land, highlighting its growing importance in the global food supply system, according to new data from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) compiled by the World Bank.
With approximately 827,000 square miles of agricultural land, Kazakhstan is listed among the six countries with the largest agricultural areas, alongside global producers such as the United States, China, and Australia.
FAO figures show that the world’s total arable and agricultural land covers about 18.1 million square miles — an area nearly equivalent to two North American continents.
China tops the list with around two million square miles of farmland, maintaining its position as both the largest holder of agricultural land and the leading producer and consumer of agricultural commodities. The United States follows with roughly 1.6 million square miles, while Australia ranks third with about 1.4 million.
Analysts note that Kazakhstan’s vast land resources position it as a potential powerhouse in cereal exports, livestock development, and sustainable agricultural production in Central Asia.
