WASHINGTON, Oct 16: Katie Zacharia is no longer serving as White House press secretary after just five days in the role, bringing an abrupt end to a turbulent tenure marked by criticism of her first press briefing and questions about her professional credentials, according to reports citing two White House officials and another person familiar with the matter.

The sources were granted anonymity to discuss personnel matters.

Zacharia’s brief tenure reportedly got off to a difficult start when her first press conference drew widespread criticism. She took only three questions from reporters and spent much of the briefing highlighting President Donald Trump’s accomplishments.

The controversy deepened after reports emerged that she had described herself as an attorney despite never having passed a bar examination. She graduated from Pepperdine University Law School.

Following the backlash, Zacharia gave interviews to several media outlets in an effort to defend herself and address concerns about her performance. However, the interviews apparently did little to ease doubts about her ability to handle the demanding role of White House press secretary.

Trump reportedly urged her to reconsider

President Trump appeared to signal reservations about Zacharia’s appointment shortly after she assumed the position.

Speaking to reporters outside the White House on Friday before departing for a campaign trip to Georgia, Trump said he had encouraged her to reconsider taking the job.

“I just spoke to her about it,” Trump said. “I said, ‘Katie, is this for you?’ Because she’s been treated very rough.”

According to one White House official, Trump directly told Zacharia that she should seriously reconsider the position. The same official said Trump had earlier expressed doubts about her suitability for television during a meeting she did not attend, reportedly telling participants that she had no talent and should not be on television.

Zacharia did not respond to a request for comment.

Despite the reported developments surrounding her departure, Zacharia and her family were scheduled to have dinner with Vice President JD Vance and his family at the vice president’s residence that evening, according to two people familiar with the arrangements.
