KAPP opens consultancy tender for Umm Al-Hayman expansion

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 2: The Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP) on Sunday announced a tender for conducting consultancy studies related to the subscription and transfer of ownership of shares allocated to Kuwaiti citizens in Umm Al-Hayman Wastewater Treatment Company. The deadline for submitting bids is April 1. KAPP disclosed that the bidding phase will be followed by the opening and reviewing of bids submitted by competing companies, prior to awarding the contract to the company that meets the technical requirements.

This winning company will be responsible for conducting the necessary consultancy studies. The Board of Directors of the CAPT approved the request of KAPP to issue this tender. As the concerned entity, KAPP will work according to the general practice, based on the relevant legal article, after CAPT reviews the letter of KAPP regarding the proposed amendments. The Umm Al-Hayman project is one of the most vital infrastructure projects in the State of Kuwait and it was launched in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Works in accordance with Law No. 116/2014 on public-private partnerships.

The project aims to treat wastewater and it is included in the development plan as one of the most important projects in the sanitation sector, given its role in mitigating the negative environmental impact of increased raw wastewater production. The current station has a capacity of about 28,000 cubic meters, while the Umm Al-Hayman station will have a capacity of 500,000 cubic meters in its first phase, with the option to expand to 700,000 cubic meters in the future.

The Umm Al-Hayman station will serve the southern part of the country -- Mubarak Al- Kabeer Governorate, Ahmadi Governorate and Sabah Al-Ahmad City, which currently suffer from inadequate wastewater treatment infrastructure. The project is expected to improve environmental conditions and transform these areas into sustainable environments according to international standards.

The treated water produced by the project will be used for various environmental purposes, including landscaping and other uses that benefit the residents of the covered areas. A portion of the treated water will be allocated to the oil sector for its various operations.
