KAC sends memo about prices of tickets for govt employees

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 23: Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) has submitted a memo to the Cabinet about the prices of tickets for government employees and the terms and conditions in this regard, reports Al-Anba daily quoting high-level ministerial sources.
Sources disclosed the ministries and other governmental institutions shall oblige their staff to travel with Kuwait Airways. Sources said this decision will be applied on official missions, scholars, employees who are given free annual air tickets, students, employees sent on scholarship abroad and those who will undergo treatment in other countries. Sources explained the ticket prices are based on the decisions issued by Finance Minister and acting Oil Minister Anas Al-Saleh.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) is currently working on the design and preparation of 29 new projects in its five-year development plan from 2016 to 2020, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting Assistant Undersecretary for Roads Engineering Sector Eng Ahmad Al-Hossan. Al-Hossan revealed these projects include the construction and improvement of roads leading to the new passengers building at Kuwait International Airport and the southern regional road from Nuwaiseeb to North Abdullah Port, in addition to Abdally, Fahaheel, Second, Third and Fourth Ring roads.
He confirmed the Fourth Ring Road project will be up for bidding by the end of this month to pave the way for selecting a global consultant on the full design of the road from Salmiya Firefighting Center to the United Nations Roundabout.
Talking about the other projects, he said the tenders will be floated in 2018 while the signing of contracts will be in 2019 and the target completion date is 2022. In the meantime, head of the National Fund for Developing Small and Medium Enterprises Dr Mohammad Al-Zuhair affirmed that a total of KD13 million has already been spent for 59 initiatives of which 17 are ongoing projects and 42 are new projects, revealing that most of these can be categorized as small enterprises, reports Al-Rai daily.
He denied the claims that the fund refused hundreds of applications of initiatives, clarifying that the fund rejected not more than ten applications because some of them do not meet the allotted conditions while others cannot be carried out in Kuwait.
Dr Al-Zuhair revealed that KD 55 million was transferred from the Public Investment Authority to the fund’s account. He explained that there are 40 projects that are currently under evaluation for financing. All banks affirmed their desire to participate in the financing of these projects.
The fund has been discussing about the commission amount of the bank and agreed with Kuwait Finance House and Gulf Bank to not charge fee for the fi rst year. Dr Al-Zuhair indicated that 100 out of 180 candidates are expected to complete a training course in this aspect.
