Justice minister sends comprehensive report on public fund cases to Speaker Al-Ghanim

KUWAIT CITY, June 24: In an expansive move towards integrity and transparency, in addition to addressing violations and mistakes; Minister of Justice Fahad Al-Afasi sent to Speaker of the National Assembly Marzouq Al-Ghanim a comprehensive report on public fund cases involving ministries and other government institutions, reports Al-Nahar daily.

The report released in April showed that the number of such cases reached 181 and all of them are related to misappropriation of public funds in the past few years. These cases are still in the court and other concerned bodies. The report said the total amount of money involved in these cases reached KD 2,356,613,000; concerning 16 government institutions and ministries. According to the report, no such cases have been filed against 18 government institutions; while others refused to submit reports on public fund violations.

The least amount of public fund misappropriation case was filed against an employee in the Central Bank of Kuwait under Case No. 219/2018. The employee was dismissed and he was required to return embezzled amount. On the other hand, such cases have been filed against the ministries of Interior, Public Works, Awqaf, Justice, Social Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Information and Oil; as well as the Public Prosecution, Public Institution for Social Security, Zakat House, Public Authority for Housing Welfare, Kuwait Municipality, Permanent Investigation Committee for the Prosecution of Ministers, and Public Authority for Printing and Publication of the Holy Quran.

The institutions that did not submit their reports include the Health Ministry, Office of the State Ministry for Service Affairs (Kuwait Airways), Defense Ministry, Commerce and Industry Ministry, Public Authority for Industry, Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources, Education Ministry, State Ministry for Youth Affairs, and Ministry of Electricity and Water
