KUWAIT CITY, Aug 5: The Court of Appeals recorded a remarkable performance in June, both in terms of completion rates and the number of hearings conducted. The court received a total of 2,036 new cases in criminal and non-criminal categories, and it successfully adjudicated 4,214 cases during the same period. This highlights the court’s accelerated pace of work and reflects its commitment to achieving prompt justice. A statistical report issued by the Ministry of Justice, through its Statistics and Research Department, revealed that some judicial departments exceeded completion rates that exceeded normal rates in June. Administrative cases recorded the highest completion rate at an impressive 173.3 percent, followed by criminal cases in the Capital Governorate, which achieved a completion rate of 152.5 percent.
The Capital Court handled the majority of new cases, accounting for 71.9 percent of total new cases, followed by Farwaniya Court with 20.1 percent, totaling 1,591 new non-criminal cases. Among the 1,591 new non-criminal cases, commercial cases ranked highest at 26.4 percent, while administrative (capital markets) cases registered the lowest at just 0.1 percent. As of June, there were 3,532 pending non-criminal cases, with commercial cases again leading at 37.9 percent. Administrative capital market cases represented the lowest share at 0.3 percent. Regarding adjudicated cases, the total reached 3,624, with commercial cases accounting for the largest share at 28.9 percent, while administrative cases related to capital markets recorded the lowest at 0.4 percent.
The overall completion rate for noncriminal cases saw a notable rise, led by administrative cases at 173.3 percent. The lowest completion rate was recorded in commercial capital markets cases at 62.7 percent. As for criminal cases, the report recorded 445 new cases in June. Felony cases in the Capital ranked highest at 35.5 percent, followed by misdemeanor cases at 34.6 percent, misdemeanor and municipal violations at 28.8 percent, and felonies related to stock markets at 1.1 percent. As for the cases currently being heard in criminal courts, they totaled 694, with 323 misdemeanor cassation cases representing the largest share at 46.5 percent, followed by misdemeanor and municipal violations at 27.1 percent, and felony cases (Capital) at 25.5 percent. The number of cases adjudicated in criminal courts reached 590, including 270 felony cases (Capital) at 45.8 percent, while felony cases related to stock markets recorded the lowest at 1.0 percent. The data also showed that the highest criminal case completion rate was in felony cases (Capital) at 152.5 percent, followed by felony cases (stock markets) at 100 percent. The Court of Cassation recorded the lowest completion rate at just 39.3 percent.
