LOS ANGELES, Nov 29: Julia Roberts celebrated a milestone for her family Saturday, posting a heartfelt message for her and husband Danny Moder’s twins, Hazel and Phinnaeus, as they marked their 21st birthday.
“These game changers, life alterers, [heart] expanders once were 1 and now are 21!” Roberts wrote on Instagram, adding a crying emoji. “That was fast. Happy Birthday, my Dears.”
The Pretty Woman actress, 58, also shared a throwback photo of the twins as babies, seated in matching highchairs while enjoying a snack, with Hazel smiling at the camera as Phinnaeus looked to the side.
Roberts, who married Moder in 2002, recently reflected on life as an empty nester, with Hazel, Phinnaeus, and their 18-year-old son Henry having moved out. “It's all fun, honestly,” she told Stephen Colbert in October. “It is all so delicious.”
Acknowledging the emotional side of not having her children at home, Roberts joked, “I don't know if sobbing now is the best jumping off point to our interview.” She added, “I love hanging out with them and spending time with them. Fortunately, we have had lots of visits along the way [to] this empty nest.”
The Oscar winner praised her children, saying, “I know everyone thinks their kids are great. Well, my kids are great.” She also noted that her parenting style has remained consistent despite the twins moving out.
“I parent them the same way out of the house that I parented them in the house,” Roberts told Today in 2023. “Which is, you know, 'Are you getting enough sleep?' And, 'You sound like you're sick.' And 'Are you drinking tea?' And 'Text me when you get home, you get home, [so] I can see that you're home safe and sound.'”
Roberts expressed her gratitude for her children’s continued respect and understanding. “I have an immense amount of appreciation for both of my older kids because they still allow me to be the same mom to them,” she said. “It’s not eye-rolling, and there’s a huge amount of understanding.”
