WASHINGTON, Feb 28, (Agencies): An Alabama judge, Johnny Hardwick, found himself in serious condition after being shot and stabbed, and the primary suspect is reported to be his own son, Khalfani Hardwick, aged 36.

The incident unfolded on Saturday when police allege a violent dispute occurred between Judge Johnny Hardwick and his son, Khalfani. Authorities claim that Khalfani stabbed his father multiple times in the face and neck, and further shot him in the face before fleeing the scene.

Following the violent episode, Khalfani was apprehended and now faces charges of first-degree domestic violence, along with charges related to the possession of a pistol by individuals prohibited from doing so. As of Tuesday, Judge Hardwick remains in serious condition in the hospital.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded to a domestic incident at the judge’s residence around 1 pm. According to the police statement, upon arrival, it was discovered that Judge Hardwick had been assaulted, shot, and seriously injured by his son.

After Khalfani fled the scene, he was eventually located on US Highway 231 and taken into custody. He is presently held without bond at the Montgomery County Detention Center.

This isn’t the first encounter Khalfani has had with the law, as he had previously pleaded guilty to second-degree assault in 2014 for shooting a family friend in the head. For that crime, he received a three-year suspended sentence with three years of probation.

Judge Johnny Hardwick, with a tenure since 2001, took on the role of president of the Alabama Association of Circuit Court Judges in August.
