AMMAN, Aug 31: Jordan’s armed forces said early Monday that they intercepted eight missiles after they breached the country’s airspace, adding that the projectiles were destroyed before posing any threat to civilians or property.
The interceptions came shortly after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had launched ballistic missile attacks against two US military bases in Jordan, identifying them as King Hussein and Al Azraq bases. Tehran described the strikes as retaliation for a US attack on Iran’s Larak Island.
The latest exchange marks a fresh escalation in regional tensions following the US strikes on Iranian military positions near the Strait of Hormuz.
