AMMAN, July 16: Jordan's armed forces said that the country's air defense systems intercepted and destroyed eight Iranian missiles launched toward its territory overnight, preventing casualties and damage.
In a statement, the Jordanian military said no injuries or material losses were reported as a result of the interceptions.
Engineering teams were immediately deployed to secure locations where missile debris fell and to ensure public safety, the military added.
The armed forces said they remain on high alert and are prepared to respond to any further threats as regional tensions continue to escalate.
The announcement comes amid heightened hostilities between Iran and the United States and follows Iranian claims of missile and drone strikes targeting US military facilities in Jordan, Kuwait and Iraq. Jordan has not linked Thursday's interceptions to those claims, and no further operational details were immediately released.
