AMMAN, July 18: Jordan's Armed Forces announced Saturday that its air defense systems successfully intercepted and shot down 10 Iranian missiles that were headed toward the Kingdom's territory, preventing any casualties or damage.
In a statement carried by the official Jordan News Agency (Petra), the military said the interception operations were carried out effectively, adding that no human casualties or material damage were reported as a result of the missile attack.
The armed forces said the operation formed part of Jordan's ongoing efforts to safeguard the country's airspace and protect its citizens amid heightened regional tensions.
Following the interceptions, teams from the Royal Engineering Corps were immediately deployed to the locations where missile debris and shrapnel fell. The military said the specialized units secured the affected areas and safely handled the remnants in accordance with approved technical and security procedures.
The statement urged the public to avoid approaching or touching any suspicious objects or missile debris and to report such findings immediately to the relevant authorities to ensure public safety.
The latest interceptions come as regional tensions continue to escalate following the intensifying military confrontation between Iran and the United States, with neighboring countries remaining on high alert against potential spillover from the conflict.
