AMMAN, Oct 26: Jordanian security forces have arrested three suspects in connection with a gun attack on a church in the southern governorate of Karak that killed nine people and injured 25 others, a government spokesman said Monday.
Government spokesman Mohammad al-Momani said the suspects were arrested at an abandoned house in Karak during a security operation.
In a statement posted on X, Momani said the suspects opened fire on security forces during a raid. They were wounded in the ensuing clash and captured, he added.
No security personnel were injured during the operation.
Authorities also seized a large quantity of weapons and ammunition at the scene, according to the spokesman.
The attack occurred Friday at Hamoud Church in Karak, where gunmen targeted people attending a funeral, killing nine and injuring 25 others.
Following the attack, Jordan declared three days of national mourning. Flags were lowered to half-staff at ministries, government offices and public institutions as the country mourned the victims.
Authorities have not provided further details about the suspects or disclosed a possible motive for the attack.
