LOS ANGELES, Oct 7, (Agencies): Jason Derulo has decided to address the sexual harassment complaint lodged against him. Following the lawsuit filed by an aspiring singer, alleging that the 34-year-old R&B star terminated their professional relationship due to her refusal of his advances, Derulo released a statement. In a video posted on Instagram early the next day, the "Glad U Came" artist vehemently denied the allegations, declaring them as "false and hurtful."
While seated in what seemed to be a dressing room, wearing a printed denim jacket and shirt, the "Whatcha Say" singer spoke his mind in the video. "I wouldn't usually comment, but these claims are completely false and hurtful," he expressed. "I stand firmly against all forms of harassment and continue to support anyone chasing their dreams. Throughout my life, I've strived to make a positive impact, which is why I find these defamatory allegations deeply offensive."
The complaint, which also names Atlantic Records, Derulo's label Future History Inc., and his manager Frank Harris, was filed by Emaza Gibson, a 25-year-old, in the Los Angeles Superior Court. Gibson is pursuing legal action for sexual harassment, breach of contract, illegal retaliatory termination, and more, accusing the singer-songwriter of making "malicious" promises of success and subsequently depriving her of the opportunity.
A representative for Derulo issued a denial of the allegations, reiterating the same statement later shared by the singer on Instagram.
