Japanese Embassy and Kuwait University host 18th Japanese Speech Contest

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 9: The Embassy of Japan in Kuwait, in collaboration with the Community Service and Continuing Education Center at Kuwait University and the Japan Society in Kuwait, held the 18th Japanese Speech Contest at Kuwait University. The event aimed to promote Japanese language education and enhance cultural exchange between the two countries. Six contestants delivered speeches in Japanese, and shared their experiences and passion for learning the language and exploring Japanese culture. The event was attended by a distinguished audience of academics and cultural figures.

In his opening remarks, the Japanese Ambassador to Kuwait, Kenichiro Mukai, expressed his gratitude to the organizers, highlighting that language serves as a bridge for understanding cultures and strengthening ties between peoples. He shared his personal journey, which began with studying Modern Standard Arabic and continued with learning the Kuwaiti dialect, which deepened his connection to the local community and its culture.

The ambassador encouraged participants to continue learning Japanese and to contribute to building a shared future that strengthens friendship and cooperation between Japan and Kuwait. Professor Uke Yutaro, a representative of the Japan-MENA Global Study Network (J-MENA), delivered a presentation on the benefits of studying in Japan, university admissions procedures, and programs tailored for Middle Eastern students. The event also included a demonstration of traditional Japanese kendo by the Kuwait Kendo and Iaido Club. Attendees enjoyed experiencing this art form, which combines etiquette, discipline, and the harmony of mind and body. The event concluded with an awards ceremony to honor the participants and commend the organizers for their efforts in promoting Japanese language education and strengthening cultural exchange between the two countries.
