TOKYO, Jun 1: Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Monday urged Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to show “maximum flexibility” to seize what she described as an opportunity to reach a ceasefire agreement with the United States.
Speaking to reporters after a phone call with Pezeshkian, Takaichi said she also strongly called for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to ensure the free and safe passage of ships from Asia and other regions.
Takaichi did not disclose the details of Pezeshkian’s response but said the two leaders agreed to maintain close communication as diplomatic efforts continue amid heightened regional tensions.
