KUWAIT CITY, Jan 14: The Criminal Court sentenced blogger Saqr Al-Hashash in absentia to 5 years in prison with hard labor based on the accusation of violating State Security Law and Cyber Crimes law.

He was earlier referred to court by the Public prosecution on charges of posting statements deemed offensive to the Amiri entity on his Twitter account, an offense attracting prison term of 80 years. It is noteworthy Al-Hashash is currently out of Kuwait, says Al-Seyassah.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Court chaired by Counselor Ahmed Al-Yaseen refrained from punishing a citizen accused of possessing intoxicants and driving under the influence of drugs. It also acquitted a citizen of possessing unlicensed weapon after confiscating the piece. And, the Administrative Court cancelled a decision issued by the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor to dissolve the board of directors of Qurain and Mubarak Al-Kabeer Cooperative Society. Former Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister of Economic Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh had issued the ministerial decision no. 11/2018 to dissolve the board due to financial and administrative violations.
