Jahra Hits 52°C as Extreme Heat and Power Overloads in Kuwait Could Turn Deadly

KUWAIT CITY, July 28: Jahra recorded the highest temperature in the country on Monday, soaring to a blistering 52°C, followed closely by Abdali and Matarba at 51°C, according to the Meteorological Department. The lowest temperature was observed on Umm Al Maradim Island, which registered a comparatively cooler 39°C.

Meteorologists have warned that the heatwave is set to continue, with temperatures expected to reach up to 50°C the day after tomorrow. Coastal areas are also likely to experience increased humidity, compounding the discomfort for residents.

In light of the extreme weather conditions, the Public Fire Force’s Public Relations Department has issued a fresh warning urging the public to exercise caution when using electrical appliances, particularly as electricity consumption surges during the summer months.

Officials emphasized the dangers of overloading electrical outlets, cautioning that connecting multiple high-consumption devices to a single socket could cause wiring to overheat and spark potentially life-threatening fires.

The department strongly advised the use of certified electrical connectors that comply with safety standards, and called on residents to regularly inspect wires and plugs for damage. Unused appliances should be unplugged to reduce electrical load and minimize risk, the statement added.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation as temperatures remain at hazardous levels across Kuwait.
