LOS ANGELES, Oct 11, (Agencies): “Here we go,” Jada Pinkett Smith whispers to herself as she stands in the hushed Los Angeles photo studio. In this moment, she’s preparing to open up about her extraordinary journey, a life that has taken her from the tough streets of Baltimore, where she once sold drugs, to the pinnacle of Hollywood.

But it’s that unforgettable night, the grandeur of the 2022 Academy Awards, where her husband, Will Smith, made headlines by slapping Chris Rock on the Oscar stage, all because of a quip about Jada’s shaved head due to her alopecia. That’s the reason for the silence, the world waiting for 18 months to hear her side of the story. And now, she’s ready to share.

“I thought, ‘This is a skit,'” Jada recollects, echoing the disbelief of many who watched the incident unfold live on television. She, like everyone else, initially believed it was some scripted joke. “I was like, ‘There’s no way that Will hit him,'” she continues. “It wasn’t until Will started to walk back to his chair that I even realized it wasn’t a skit.” Her immediate concern, when they were finally alone after the show, was, “Are you okay?”

The answer to that question is a journey in itself, a story that Jada delves into in her gripping new book, “Worthy,” set to release on October 17. “I’m going to be by his side,” she says of her 55-year-old husband, “but also allow him to figure this out for himself.”

However, before that pivotal evening in March 2022, Jada’s life was a tapestry of experiences, or perhaps, a series of lives. As she elaborates in her forthcoming book, her story is one of overcoming a challenging childhood and navigating the complexities of her marriage. “I was living many of these lives all at once,” she reflects.
