KUWAIT CITY, Feb 18: A tragic accident in Jaber Al-Ali claimed the life of a three-year-old Kuwaiti child after he became trapped in an elevator at his home. The child’s body was transferred to the Forensic Medicine department, and authorities have registered a case to investigate the incident. According to a security source, when the Ministry of Interior’s Operations Room received a report about the child being trapped in the elevator, security patrols, ambulance crews, and firefighters rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, specialized teams discovered that the child had already passed away despite all rescue efforts. An official investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances of the accident and to take the necessary measures. Following the incident, Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Gharib, Director of Public Relations and Media at the Kuwait Fire Force (KFF), issued a press statement in which he emphasized the importance of adhering to safety requirements when installing elevators in residential, commercial, and investment buildings.
He insisted that installation work must be carried out by companies accredited by the KFF. Brigadier General Al-Gharib explained that company accreditation ensures elevators comply with approved safety and security standards, particularly those related to emergency systems, rescue equipment, and safe operating procedures, thereby helping protect lives and property and minimizing potential risks. He urged property and office owners to ensure all technical requirements are met before operating elevators, emphasizing that adherence to safety measures is the first line of defense.
