Italy’s PM Meloni Urges EU to Impose New Sanctions on Iran Over Middle East Crisis

ROME, Jun 1!: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has said the European Union should be prepared to impose new sanctions on Iran if it fails to help facilitate an end to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.

Speaking in parliament on Thursday, Meloni warned that if Tehran “continues down the wrong path,” the EU must be ready to increase pressure through “new targeted measures.”

Her remarks came in a broader speech outlining Italy’s foreign policy positions ahead of an upcoming EU summit, where she is expected to press for coordinated European action on regional tensions.

Meloni also criticized recent comments made about Italy by Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, describing them as “unacceptable for Italy and also undignified for Israel.”
