KUWAIT CITY, Oct 20: Italian Ambassador to Kuwait Lorenzo Morini inaugurated the Italian Design Week at The Avenues Mall with the theme, “Celebrating Italian Creativity in Various Fields.” In a press statement, Morini pointed out that holding the event at this location is a unique opportunity to showcase Italian creativity to the Kuwaiti public. He affirmed that The Avenues Mall is the ideal place to showcase high-end Italian products, indicating the essence of Italian design is present throughout the mall -- from safety systems to marble, furniture and decor. He said perfume, eyewear and automotive companies are also participating in the event.
He stated that the aim of the event is to highlight the depth of cultural and commercial relations between the Kuwaiti and Italian peoples, disclosing that the weekend program includes traditional performances of the historic flag dance by Italian artistes, in a scene that embodies authentic Italian heritage and art. He said the Italian culture is beloved and wellknown in Kuwait, and that the similarity in taste between the two peoples -- whether in food, fashion or design -- reflects a deep cultural affinity. He added that the quality of Italian products gives them a strong presence in the Kuwaiti market despite the stiff competition.
Regarding academic cooperation, Morini confirmed that the Italian Embassy is working hard to promote the teaching of the Italian language in Kuwaiti universities. He confirmed that Italian designers will deliver lectures at Kuwait University as part of the week’s activities, asserting the youths are the key to the future and cultural communication between the two countries. The activities on the first day concluded with a concert at the American Cultural Center entitled, “Music of the Peoples - An Italian Story,” during which Kuwaiti and Italian musicians performed collaborative pieces that were admired by the audience. Morini emphasized that music remains a universal language that unites peoples and builds bridges of understanding
