ROME, Jun 28: Italy on Sunday condemned Iran's latest attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait, warning that further escalation could undermine recent diplomatic efforts aimed at easing tensions in the region.

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani expressed his country's “strongest condemnation” of the attacks and reaffirmed Italy's full solidarity with Bahrain and Kuwait.

In a statement posted on X, Tajani stressed the importance of preventing further escalation, saying it was essential to preserve the understandings that had been reached through intensive diplomatic efforts.

He also reaffirmed Italy's commitment to safeguarding freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, describing the strategic waterway as vital to global trade and regional stability.

“Italy reiterates its commitment to freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and to achieving a Middle East of peace and stability as quickly as possible,” Tajani said.

The comments came after Iran launched renewed strikes targeting US military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait. Bahrain said its air defenses successfully intercepted and destroyed several Iranian missiles and drones aimed at its territory.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the attacks were carried out in retaliation for recent US strikes on Iranian targets. Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions continue, with Pakistan playing a mediating role between Washington and Tehran following the conflict that began on Feb. 28.
