RIYADH, Oct 30: Arsenale S.p.A., Italy’s leading name in luxury hospitality and experiential travel, has unveiled the mock-up carriage of “Dream of the Desert,” Saudi Arabia’s first ultra-luxury train, during the prestigious Future Investment Initiative (FII) in Riyadh.

Developed in partnership with Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR), the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services, the Transport General Authority (TGA), the Ministry of Culture, and the Saudi Tourism Authority (STA), the unveiling marks a milestone in the evolution of high-end rail travel in the Middle East. Presented at the ninth edition of FII under the theme “The Key to Prosperity,” the showcase offered the world its first glimpse into a project that promises to redefine the art of luxury travel.

The Dream of the Desert train will feature 31 private suites and two presidential suites, accommodating up to 66 guests in total. The design includes two restaurant cars and an elegant Majlis lounge, showcasing intricate woodwork, desert-inspired colors, and golden accents that echo the warmth and sophistication of Saudi heritage.

Guests will enjoy two distinct culinary experiences — one celebrating authentic Saudi and regional dishes, and another offering an international menu infused with Italian flair. Both will be curated by world-renowned chefs, promising a Michelin-level dining experience on board.

Set to embark on its maiden voyage by the end of 2026, the Dream of the Desert will travel along 1,300 kilometers of existing railway lines, connecting Riyadh to some of the Kingdom’s most captivating destinations. Each one- to two-night journey will be carefully curated to immerse guests in Saudi Arabia’s natural splendor, cultural richness, and historical depth.

He emphasized that Dream of the Desert represents a model of partnership between SAR and global investors, aimed at elevating the Kingdom’s tourism sector, attracting investment, and positioning Saudi Arabia as a global destination for luxury and authentic experiences.

H.E. Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and Chairman of SAR, described the unveiling as a reflection of the Kingdom’s remarkable transformation in the railway sector. He noted that the project is a direct outcome of Vision 2030’s objectives to modernize transport infrastructure and introduce tourism-driven mobility solutions that enhance quality of life and promote sustainable travel.

The train’s interiors have been conceived by acclaimed architect and interior designer Aline Asmar d’Amman, founder of Culture in Architecture. Her design philosophy blends Saudi authenticity with Italian artistry — reinterpreting traditional textile weavings, carved woodwork, and handcrafted details into a modern, timeless aesthetic.

The interiors draw from the desert’s natural palette — earthy browns, sandy neutrals, and oasis greens — illuminated by the soft cinematic glow of Murano-blown glass, evoking the warmth of Arabian lanterns. The result is an atmosphere that honors the Kingdom’s heritage while exuding refined contemporary elegance.

More than a train, Dream of the Desert promises a complete sensory and cultural experience. Passengers will enjoy bespoke on-board and off-board programs, including private performances, curated excursions, and exclusive access to UNESCO World Heritage sites and hidden destinations soon to gain international recognition.

Each itinerary has been crafted to reveal Saudi Arabia’s unique blend of natural beauty, cultural legacy, and spiritual depth, inviting travelers to connect with the land in an intimate and meaningful way.
