Israel Set for Powerful Retaliation After Iranian Missile Barrage

TEL AVIV, Jun 7: Israel is preparing to deliver a “powerful response” to Iran’s missile launches, according to CNN, citing two Israeli sources, amid a rapid escalation in regional tensions.

The report comes after around 10 missiles were launched from Iran toward Israel on Sunday evening. Israeli officials said all incoming missiles were intercepted by air defense systems, though the launches triggered sirens across large parts of northern Israel and prompted emergency responses nationwide.

The escalation followed Israeli strikes on Hezbollah targets in Beirut’s southern Dahieh district earlier in the day, raising concerns of a broader regional confrontation. In response, Israeli authorities announced that schools would remain closed on Monday, while the Home Front Command imposed nationwide restrictions on public gatherings and activities.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it had been operating in a heightened state of readiness following a situational assessment, reinforcing defensive systems in anticipation of possible further attacks. “The IDF is in a state of readiness and high alert for a range of scenarios, both defensive and offensive,” the military said.

The IDF later confirmed the missile launches from Iran and said interception systems were activated immediately. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a security consultation with senior defense officials, where early assessments suggested Iran may be aiming for a limited response rather than full-scale escalation, focusing primarily on northern Israel.

Israeli officials said further decisions on military response options are expected as the situation continues to develop.
