JERUSALEM, (AP) March 26: Israel on Thursday said it had killed Commodore Alireza Tangsiri, the head of the naval force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), in an overnight military strike.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Tangsiri was killed along with other senior Iranian naval commanders, describing the operation as part of ongoing strikes targeting Iran’s military leadership.
Katz said Tangsiri was responsible for operations linked to attacks on shipping and efforts to restrict vessel movement through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil transit route.
He added that the strike was intended to send a “clear message” to senior Iranian military officials that Israel would continue to target those involved in hostile actions.
The Israeli military did not immediately provide additional operational details, while Iran has not yet confirmed or commented on the reported killing.
The announcement comes amid escalating regional tensions and continued exchanges of strikes between the two sides.
