TEL AVIV / WASHINGTON, Jun 8: The Israeli military said on Monday it is preparing for several more days of fighting with Iran and is ready for a prolonged conflict if tensions continue to escalate. According to the military, Iran has launched at least 20 ballistic missiles toward Israel since Sunday night, while Iran-backed Houthi forces in Yemen fired two additional missiles on Monday morning. Most of the projectiles were intercepted or landed in open areas, officials said.
Israel responded with two waves of strikes inside Iran, including overnight attacks on nine air defense systems in western and central parts of the country. Israeli fighter jets later targeted three factories at a petrochemical complex in southwestern Iran. The military said the operations were conducted by Israel but in full coordination with US Central Command, whose forces have also assisted in intercepting incoming missiles.
Israeli military chief Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir has held multiple discussions with US Central Command commander Admiral Brad Cooper since the latest escalation began, highlighting close military coordination between the two allies.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump called on both sides to immediately halt hostilities. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, “Israel and Iran must immediately stop ‘shooting’,” as international concern grows over the risk of a wider regional conflict.
