Israel: Iran Ceasefire Does Not Apply to Hezbollah War in Lebanon

TEL AVIV, Apr 8: Israel said on Wednesday that the newly announced ceasefire with Iran does not extend to its ongoing conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon.

In a statement, the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel supports Donald Trump’s decision to suspend strikes against Iran for two weeks, but clarified that the arrangement does not cover operations against Hezbollah.

The statement added that the ceasefire remains conditional on Iran immediately reopening the Strait of Hormuz and halting all attacks against the United States, Israel, and other countries in the region.

Israel also expressed backing for U.S. efforts to ensure that Iran no longer poses a nuclear or missile threat, underscoring that its broader security concerns remain unchanged despite the temporary pause in direct hostilities with Tehran.

Earlier, Israel said it supports Donald Trump’s decision to suspend strikes against Iran for two weeks, but stressed the move is conditional on immediate steps by Tehran.

In a statement Tuesday, the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the ceasefire depends on Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz and halting attacks on the United States, Israel, and other regional countries.

“Israel also supports the U.S. effort to ensure that Iran no longer poses a nuclear, missile and terror threat to America, Israel, Iran’s Arab neighbors and the world,” the statement said.

It added that Washington has assured Israel of its commitment to achieving these objectives through upcoming negotiations involving the U.S., Israel, and regional allies.

The statement further clarified that the two-week ceasefire does not extend to Lebanon, where Israel continues its conflict with Hezbollah.
