TEHRAN, Jun 28: An Iranian media outlet affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has argued that Iran has “no choice” but to acquire a nuclear bomb, saying nuclear deterrence is needed to prevent military options against the country.
In a commentary published on Sunday, Fars News Agency said Iran must pursue nuclear capabilities to gain what it described as the “calm needed” to navigate a transition toward a new global order and resolve disputes through negotiations.
The report argued that nuclear deterrence would allow Iran to negotiate from a stronger position and create what it called a balance of power between Iran, the United States, and Israel.
Fars said such deterrence could limit the scope of any potential conflict and reduce the likelihood of military confrontation.
The comments come amid heightened tensions over Iran’s nuclear program and escalating regional security concerns. Tehran has long maintained that its nuclear activities are for peaceful purposes, while Western countries and Israel have repeatedly raised concerns over the possibility of Iran developing nuclear weapons.
