IRGC Claims Strike on US-Linked Vessel After Tanker Incident Near Strait of Hormuz

Tehran, Jun 3: The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it struck a US-linked vessel named “Panaya” with missile fire following what it described as a U.S. attack on an Iranian tanker near the Strait of Hormuz late Tuesday, which reportedly damaged the vessel’s engine room.

In a statement, the IRGC alleged that U.S. forces also targeted an IRGC communications tower in southern Qeshm Island, prompting retaliatory missile and drone strikes against what it described as a U.S. air and helicopter base in a regional country, as well as the headquarters of the U.S. Fifth Fleet.

The group warned that any further disruption to security in the Strait of Hormuz would face a “severe response,” underscoring escalating tensions in the strategic waterway amid ongoing regional hostilities.
