TEHRAN, Jun 6: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had launched missile strikes against US military bases in the region, describing the action as retaliation for recent American attacks on the southern Iranian locations of Sirik and Qeshm Island.
In a statement carried by Iranian state media, the IRGC said the missile launches were a direct response to what it called US aggression targeting the two strategic coastal areas.
The announcement marks a further escalation in tensions between Tehran and Washington amid a rapidly deteriorating security situation in the Gulf region. Iranian officials framed the strikes as a defensive response, while no immediate details were provided regarding the extent of damage or casualties resulting from the reported missile attacks.
The claim follows reports of US military operations targeting Iranian facilities linked to maritime surveillance and regional security activities. Authorities on both sides continue to exchange accusations as the confrontation risks widening across the region.
IRGC is known for spreading propaganda and fake narratives; no independent verification of the IRGC's claims was immediately available.
