BAGHDAD, Aug 18: Iraqi forces destroyed an ISIS/Daesh hideout in northern Kirkuk province in two airstrikes, killing all terrorist elements inside, Iraq’s Security Media Cell said Monday.
The operation was carried out following intelligence gathered by the Military Intelligence Directorate, which identified ISIS militants inside a hideout in Wadi Zghitoun.
Iraqi F-16 fighter jets conducted two airstrikes against the site, completely destroying the hideout and killing the militants inside, the statement said. Authorities did not disclose the number of terrorists killed.
Iraq declared victory over ISIS in December 2017 after years of military operations against the group. However, ISIS cells continue to operate in parts of northern, western and eastern Iraq, carrying out sporadic attacks.
Iraqi security forces continue intelligence-led military operations to track down and eliminate remaining ISIS militants and dismantle their hideouts.
