Iraq national team coach Graham Arnold addresses the media after the World Cup qualification.

MEXICO CITY, April 2: Iraq national team coach Graham Arnold says his squad won’t fear football powerhouses at the 2026 World Cup, aiming to deliver standout performances and surprise the world.

Facing France, Norway, and Senegal, Arnold says his team will compete with a winning mindset. “Iraq has nothing to lose. Playing against stars like Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland is an honor, but we’ll aim for victory and to shock the world,” he added.

Arnold highlighted the historic nature of Iraq’s qualification after a 2-1 playoff win over Bolivia, marking their first World Cup appearance in 40 years.

Having led Australia to the Round of 16 in 2022, Arnold brings experience and confidence to the Iraqi squad. He stressed that qualifying is a major opportunity for players to shine on the global stage and bring pride to Iraqi fans.

Iraq will compete in Group 9 from June 11 to July 19 in North America, alongside France, Senegal, and Norway.
