BAGHDAD, Sep 12: Iraq has ordered the closure of the Shalamcheh border crossing with Iran as a precaution following drone attacks on Saudi Arabia, Reuters reported Friday, citing two Iraqi security sources.
The sources said Iraqi authorities were also conducting a wide-scale security operation to identify and pursue those responsible for the attacks.
Saudi Arabia said Friday that drones launched from Iraqi territory had struck its East-West oil pipeline, prompting heightened security measures in Iraq.
The closure of Shalamcheh, a key crossing between Iraq and Iran, comes amid growing regional tensions and concerns that Iraqi territory could be used as a launch point for attacks against neighboring countries.
The Iraqi government has been under increasing pressure to prevent armed groups operating from its territory from carrying out cross-border attacks.
