Iraq awarded the Gulf Cup 28 hosting rights

JEDDAH, Sept. 28 (KUNA): The Executive Committee of the Gulf Football Federation on Monday approved Iraq’s bid to host the 28th Arabian Gulf Cup (Gulf 28), in line with the federation’s regulations and approved standards.

The decision was taken during the committee’s meeting in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, held on the sidelines of the ongoing Gulf Cup 27 and chaired by federation president Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.

According to a federation statement, the committee reviewed the Iraqi Football Federation’s request to host the tournament, noting that it was the only bid submitted by a member association.

The Iraqi Football Federation must now notify the federation of the host city within the specified timeframe and complete all organizational requirements under the federation’s regulations.

The federation said the decision reflects its commitment to strengthening cooperation with member associations, developing Gulf competitions, and supporting their successful hosting and organization.

At the close of the meeting, Sheikh Hamad reaffirmed his continued support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino and said he would maintain that support in the coming period.
