Iran–US Political Understanding Not Yet Finalised, Iranian Sources Say Amid Contradictory Reports

TEHRAN/WASHINGTON, May 29: A senior Iranian source told Reuters on Friday that while a political understanding has been reached between Iran and the United States over the ongoing Iran-related war file, it has not yet been finalised, and key details remain under discussion.

The source said claims by US President Donald Trump that uranium would be “unearthed” by the United States were inaccurate, adding that any emerging memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington does not include nuclear-related provisions.

Meanwhile, IRGC-affiliated Iranian media outlet Tasnim News Agency reported that no final understanding has been reached between the two sides, directly contradicting suggestions of a completed agreement.

Tasnim dismissed Trump’s remarks regarding the lifting of a naval blockade as unilateral interpretations, arguing that any easing of maritime restrictions would simply reverse what it described as an unjustified measure rather than constitute part of a new deal framework.

The outlet also rejected claims circulating in US media about nuclear-related concessions, stating that current discussions do not cover detailed nuclear arrangements. It further insisted that the release of Iran’s frozen assets remains a key prerequisite before any preliminary understanding can be formally established.

According to Tasnim, Tehran continues to express skepticism over Washington’s position, stressing that unresolved financial and sanctions-related issues must be addressed before progress can be made in negotiations.
