JERUSALEM, April 6:  Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that Israel killed Asghar Bakri, commander of Unit 840 in Iran’s Quds Force, during an overnight operation. In a post on X, Netanyahu said Bakri had been responsible for attacks targeting Jews and Israelis worldwide.

The prime minister also confirmed the killing of Majid Khademi, the head of intelligence for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), describing him as a senior figure who recently assumed the position after his predecessor was killed.

“Whoever acts to murder our citizens, whoever directs terror against the State of Israel, whoever builds the Iranian axis of evil, bears responsibility for his own blood,” Netanyahu said. He added that Israel would continue operating “with strength and determination” on all fronts until its war objectives are achieved.

The Israeli military also stated that it had killed Kamil Melhem, the artillery commander of the Iran-linked Imam Hussein Division, in an airstrike in Lebanon a day earlier. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Sunday’s strike targeted the division’s main fire-control headquarters, killing Melhem and several other fighters, including aides to division commander Yahya Hussein.

The IDF said Melhem had overseen artillery fire toward Israeli territory and troops, played a key role in weapons procurement, and worked in the division commander’s office. Israel described the Imam Hussein Division as a Quds Force-backed group that supports the so-called Axis of Resistance and carries out attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians. The military said the strike had significantly weakened the division’s operations.
