TEHRAN, Jun 5: Daily power outages have returned to several parts of Iran, with residents reporting scheduled blackouts of up to two hours a day, adding fresh economic pressure on businesses already struggling with soaring inflation and weak consumer spending.
Citizens stated that electricity cuts are frequently imposed during the evening rush between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. — a critical period for retailers and small businesses.
“The power cuts have started again. Our neighborhood loses electricity for two hours a day, and they often shut it off between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., right when shops are busiest,” one resident said.
Business owners say the outages are further hurting sales as customers avoid darkened stores and disrupted shopping areas.
“Business is already suffering from inflation and weak purchasing power. Now the outages are driving customers away and making the situation even worse,” the resident added.
The renewed blackouts highlight the growing strain on Iran’s electricity network amid persistent economic challenges. The outages are also fueling public frustration as households and businesses face mounting hardships from rising prices, declining purchasing power, and recurring disruptions to essential services.
The latest cuts come as authorities continue to grapple with energy shortages, raising concerns that broader electricity rationing could affect economic activity nationwide if demand continues to outpace supply.
