Blurry video released by the Iranian regime to prove Mojtaba Khamenei is alive
TEHRAN, Aug 16: The Iranian regime has circulated a new video purportedly showing Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei meeting President Masoud Pezeshkian, but the footage has been disputed by Sabreen News, which described it as fake and fabricated.
Sabreen News said the video claiming to show a meeting between the two leaders was not genuine, raising fresh questions over footage involving Mojtaba Khamenei, whose public appearances have been extremely limited.
The development comes after Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said in May that he had met with Khamenei, although details about when and where the meeting took place were not disclosed. A photograph purportedly showing the meeting was subsequently circulated and later assessed by fact-checkers as AI-generated.
Several other videos attributed to Mojtaba Khamenei have also been challenged in recent months. A video purportedly showing him entering a military operations room was found to contain signs of AI generation, while another clip allegedly showing him delivering a speech was also identified as AI-generated.
The repeated circulation of disputed footage has added to the uncertainty surrounding Khamenei’s whereabouts and public activities. His limited visibility has fueled speculation, while Iranian authorities have released only limited visual material showing him since he assumed the position of supreme leader.
The authenticity of the latest video could not be independently established based on the available information.
