Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps members' infiltration plot targeting Kuwait's Bubiyan Island

Kuwait, May 12: The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior announced on Tuesday that four individuals arrested earlier this month in a maritime infiltration attempt have confessed to belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of the Islamic Republic of Iran and were allegedly tasked with carrying out hostile operations inside Kuwaiti territory.

The statement comes in continuation of an earlier announcement by the Ministry of Defense dated May 3, which reported the arrest of four infiltrators attempting to enter Kuwait by sea. The suspects were subsequently handed over to the competent security authorities for investigation.

According to the Ministry of Interior, the four detainees identified themselves during interrogation as:

  • Naval Colonel Amir Hossein Abdolmohammad Zaraei
  • Naval Colonel Abdolsamad Yedaleh Ghanavati
  • Naval Captain Ahmad Jamshid Gholamreza Zolfaghari
  • First Lieutenant Mohammad Hossein Sohrab Foroughi Rad

Authorities said the suspects confessed to being assigned by the IRGC to infiltrate Bubiyan Island on May 1 aboard a specially chartered fishing vessel, allegedly intended to carry out hostile acts against the State of Kuwait.

The ministry further stated that during the confrontation with Kuwaiti Armed Forces stationed on Bubiyan Island, an exchange of fire occurred, resulting in an injury to one Kuwaiti service member while performing his duties.

Two additional members of the group reportedly fled during the incident, identified as Naval Captain Mansour Qambari and vessel commander Abdulali Kazem Siamri.

The Ministry of Interior said legal procedures have been initiated in accordance with established protocols, stressing that all security agencies remain on high alert in coordination with the Kuwaiti Armed Forces to counter any threats to national security.

It reiterated that Kuwait’s security apparatus remains fully prepared to confront “hostile plots and attempts targeting the safety and stability of the country.”

On May 3, the Ministry of Defense had first confirmed that Kuwaiti forces foiled a maritime infiltration attempt in territorial waters, apprehending four individuals trying to enter the country illegally by sea before handing them over to relevant authorities for investigation.
