TEHRAN, Sep 1: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned the United States on Tuesday that it would “regret its new attacks” after US forces began striking IRGC targets in Iran.
“A harsh punishment awaits the aggressors,” IRGC spokesman Sardar Mohebi said, according to Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency.
The warning came shortly after US Central Command announced that American forces had begun carrying out strikes against IRGC targets in Iran, further escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington.
Tensions have remained high since the conflict began with strikes on Iran in late February. A framework agreement was reached in June through mediation by Pakistan and Qatar, but differences over navigation in the Strait of Hormuz persisted.
The United States later launched a two-week bombing campaign in July and reimposed a naval blockade, according to the report.
