TEHRAN, May 24: Iran has not agreed to take any nuclear-related actions at the current stage of negotiations with the United States, according to reports by IRGC-linked Tasnim News, even as discussions continue over a possible draft memorandum of understanding aimed at easing regional tensions and paving the way for further talks.
The report stated that Iran’s position remains that nuclear issues will not be addressed in the initial phase of the proposed agreement. Instead, the draft framework under discussion reportedly focuses on broader de-escalation measures and economic relief mechanisms.
According to Tasnim News, the possible memorandum of understanding could include a U.S. commitment to temporarily ease or waive sanctions on Iranian oil exports during the negotiation period, allowing Tehran to continue selling oil without restrictions linked to sanctions enforcement. The draft is also said to include provisions calling for an end to hostilities across multiple regional fronts, including the conflict involving Lebanon.
The report further indicated that the proposed framework may establish a phased timeline, including 30 days for initial steps related to maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, followed by 60 days dedicated to broader nuclear negotiations between the two sides.
In a separate development, Fars News, another IRGC-affiliated outlet, reported that the draft memorandum also includes mutual security assurances between the two sides. Under this arrangement, both Washington and its allies would reportedly commit not to launch attacks against Iran or its partners, while Iran and its allies would similarly pledge not to carry out preemptive military strikes against the United States or its allies.
The reports suggest that while discussions are advancing toward a structured framework, significant differences remain, particularly regarding the sequencing and scope of nuclear-related commitments.
The proposed talks remain ongoing and have not yet resulted in a finalized agreement, with both sides continuing to exchange proposals through indirect channels.
