TEHRAN, July 18: US missile strikes have damaged electricity infrastructure and desalination facilities in Iran's southern Hormozgan province, disrupting drinking water supplies to several villages, according to Iranian officials.
IRGC-affiliated Tasnim News Agency reported Friday that the strikes targeted electricity infrastructure and desalination pumps at a pier in the village of Bonji in Jask, a coastal area overlooking the Gulf of Oman.
Hormozgan Deputy Governor for Political, Security and Social Affairs Ismail Dehestani said the attack caused interruptions to drinking water supplies in several villages in western Jask, leaving local authorities scrambling to restore essential services.
Dehestani said assessment teams had been deployed to determine the full extent of the damage, while emergency repair crews were working to restore electricity and water supplies to the affected communities as quickly as possible.
The reported damage comes as the United States continues an intensified military campaign against Iranian targets, with Washington saying its operations are aimed at degrading Iran's military capabilities. Iranian officials, meanwhile, have accused the United States of expanding strikes to include civilian infrastructure, a claim Washington has not commented on.
Jask, located in Hormozgan province near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz, is considered strategically important due to its proximity to one of the world's busiest oil shipping routes. The latest reported strike highlights the growing impact of the conflict on civilian infrastructure in southern Iran as hostilities between Tehran and Washington continue to escalate.
