Iranian Regime Says Middle East Countries Should Provide Their Own Security and Not Rely on Outside Powers

TEHRAN, Jun 24: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Wednesday that security in the Middle East should be guaranteed by countries within the region, not by outside powers.

Speaking as he traveled to Baku to attend a meeting of parliaments from Muslim-majority countries, Ghalibaf said regional states must take responsibility for their own security.

“Security in the region must be provided by the countries of the region themselves,” he said.

He added that the security of one country should not come at the expense of another.

“No one’s security should depend on the insecurity of others,” Ghalibaf said.

Ghalibaf is attending the 20th meeting of the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Member States , held in Azerbaijan’s capital.

He said regional circumstances had changed following the recent war and that the meeting would provide Iran with an opportunity to explain its position on developments after the conflict.

“The resistance of the Iranian people showed that the era of imposing one’s will on independent nations has ended,” he said, adding that Iran’s stance had drawn international admiration.
