TEHRAN, Jul 23: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Thursday that it has the right to strike US military bases in Jordan, describing such attacks as a legitimate response to what it called repeated American strikes on Iranian territory.

In a statement addressed to the Jordanian people, the IRGC said the targets were US military facilities used to launch attacks against Iran.

The Guards claimed their strikes had destroyed several systems at a US base, including a THAAD missile defence radar, a Patriot air defence system, a C-RAM radar, fuel storage facilities and helicopter maintenance infrastructure.

The IRGC said it respected Jordan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, but argued that US military installations on Jordanian soil represented territory under American control.

“It is our legal, religious and logical right to target the aggressor against our country and the killer of our children wherever it launches attacks from,” the statement said.

The claims come amid rising regional tensions, with Iran and the United States engaged in escalating military confrontations and both sides accusing each other of carrying out attacks across the region.
