TEHRAN, May 11: Narges Mohammadi, the Iranian human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner, has been released on bail by Iranian authorities for medical treatment following growing concerns over her health, according to her supporters.

Mohammadi had spent 10 days hospitalized in the city of Zanjan in northern Iran, where she was serving her prison sentence. Her foundation said authorities granted her a temporary suspension of sentence on what it described as “heavy bail,” though no details were provided about the amount.

In a statement, the foundation added that Mohammadi was transferred by ambulance to a hospital in Tehran, where she will receive treatment from her own medical team.

Mohammadi, a prominent advocate for women’s rights and political freedoms in Iran, was awarded the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize for her activism despite repeated arrests and years spent in prison.
