Iranian Regime Issues Stark Warning After Trump Threatens Bridge, Power Plant Strikes

TEHRAN, Jul 22: The Iranian regime has warned it will target regional infrastructure, including energy facilities, if the United States attacks Iranian bridges or power plants, escalating tensions after US President Donald Trump's latest warning over security in the Strait of Hormuz.

An Iranian military source told the semi-official Tasnim News Agency on Wednesday that Tehran would retaliate against regional infrastructure in which Washington has interests if the US carried out strikes on Iranian civilian infrastructure.

The warning came after Trump said the United States would destroy one Iranian bridge or power plant each time Iran attacked a commercial vessel transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian source said Tehran had a "steel determination" to exercise its sovereignty over the strategic waterway and would not allow it to become a source of threats against Iran. He added that commercial shipping would remain safe as long as vessels coordinated with Iranian authorities and complied with procedures established by Tehran.

The source warned that if the US struck any Iranian bridge or power plant, Iran would respond by targeting regional infrastructure, including energy facilities linked to US interests. He also claimed Iran had demonstrated over the past 10 days that it was capable of striking any target it chose, warning that any further escalation by Washington would "once again end in failure."

The exchange of threats comes as US and Iranian forces continue to trade strikes despite a Pakistan-brokered framework agreement signed in June that was intended to end the conflict that began in February and pave the way for a lasting peace agreement.
